What we've learned...
As practice begins, our sons’ time becomes scant. The boys must learn to manage their time for practices, games, travel, classes, homework, exams and fun. This proves to be a challenge for some~we have found that the players who are more connected with their teammates and professors have had the greatest success finding the balance.
The coaching staff sends out a notification to professors the week of a competition with the travel roster. It is each player’s responsibility to communicate and plan with their professor if they will be absent from a class ahead of time. If players wait until they return, they may find that they are not be allowed to make up a missed quiz or test. Professors have typically been found to be very supportive of the student athletes IF the athlete communicates ahead of time and makes good effort to keep up with their work while traveling. Some professors will not allow players to take a missed quiz or test, but will have the player do an ‘alternate assignement’ in it’s place. We can not stress enough to have your son speak to his professors ahead of time~it is their responsibility.
